For America, the development of the textile mills was a key contribution to the overall growth as a country and a culture. America struggled when the foreign trade was cut off because of the War of 1812. The middle class grew stronger by creating more jobs and therefore increasing the standard of living. The textile mills also contributed to the stabilization of the economy through price reduction on all of the textile products. Since textiles were mass produced, it became cheaper to create textiles, and affected the overall market; making everything more affordable. In addition, the textile industry helped liberate young women of the time period as they became gainfully employed. Mill employment led to more rights and responsibilities, which in turn, increased America’s work force. These combined benefits made the textile mill an important part of American society and a key factor in its economic growth.
